EBP Readiness & Fidelity

READINESS

Is my organization ready for Evidence Based Practices?

Conducting a General Organization Index (GOI) can help you decide if your organization is ready for implementation of EBPs. The GOI is used to measure some of the general operating characteristics of an organization. The information obtained from the GOI is used to identify if an organization might be ready to implement and sustain evidence based practices.

The GOI contains 10 principles including elements such as program philosophy, training, supervision, and program monitoring. The GOI refers to operating characteristics that should be very similar across the EBPs. It is intended to be used as an assessment tool used at the same time as the EBP fidelity scale is administered. Typically, agencies that do an excellent job in implementing a practice have the GOI elements in place within the organization. Programs scoring high on the GOI are expected to be more effective in implementing an EBP and in achieving desired outcomes.

The higher the score, the greater the likelihood of success of implementing evidence based practices with fidelity and sustainability.

FIDELITY

Fidelity Scales
Fidelity scales are used to assess if those evidence based practices being implemented are adhering to the fidelity—or true design—of the model. It has been reported that adhering to fidelity to a particular evidence based practice improves clinician improvement and leads to better patient outcomes.

Following are links to scales that can be used to assess the fidelity of evidence-based practices that are being implemented in adult mental health services.  Under each type of intervention, there is a protocol for using the scale, and then the actual scale.  For additional information, please contact us.
